Qualified Products Lists
Qualified Products Lists are maintained by the
Department as part of the quality assurance program for construction materials. The
Materials and Testing Section is responsible for updating and maintaining the Qualified
Products List Manual and for evaluating most new products for inclusion in this
listing. The maintenance, revision and publishing of the manual is handled by the
Materials Qualifications Unit. The QPL Manual is updated quarterly and all manual holders
receive a copy of the revisions.
The Qualified Products Lists have been developed
for those materials which require more than normal sampling and testing, such as materials
requiring source approval, performance evaluation, in-service evaluation, long-term
testing, etc. The QPL provides for a thorough evaluation on a one-time basis rather
than each time the product is used. After initial evaluation and placement on the
QPL, only short-term "identification" tests and/or certifications are usually
required to ensure continued conformance to specifications.
A qualification procedure has been established for
each QPL. This procedure contains a list of information required from the
manufacturer of the product, a Qualified Product Evaluation form, sample size, laboratory
testing time, field testing time, tests performed, specification requirements and project
acceptance requirements.
Manufacturer's representatives who wish to have
products placed on a Qualified Products List must submit the Qualified Product Evaluation
form, all information listed in the qualification procedure and a sample to the proper QPL
coordinator at the Materials and Testing Section. A list of QPL coordinators is
located in the front of the QPL Manual. The list of QPL coordinators may be obtained
free of charge by contacting the Materials Qualifications Unit at (225) 248-4111.
